Maybe you can notice {maybe you can't and that's okay} but this is my new, slightly lighter hair color.
I've been having a bit of a hair color identity crisis since returning back to my natural roots over the summer. But I like roots, so I opted to go with a subtle ombre color to ease my way back into the realm of lighter hair.

In other news, I'm gearing up for a crazy next few weeks. I have an annual work trip, final exams {which I have to reschedule due to said annual work trip} and then spring break! Yes I'm 28 and still excited about things like spring break. Actually I'm really lucky that an annual girls' trip to Chicago conveniently fell during spring break so I wouldn't have to miss out because of silly things like homework and studying. Now if those exams would just magically take themselves, I'd be all set.

This is one of those outfits I planned to wear along time ago. But then the snap on this skirt broke and by the time the skirt was fixed {thanks Mom} this shirt was somewhere in the pile of dirty clothes. So finally after a weekend of doing 5 loads of laundry, I'm wearing this outfit. I quite like it!

I'm basically wearing a few of my favorite things. 1. A cozy scarf {it's been an almost everyday essential the past few weeks}, 2. A soft top {it is almost like wearing pajamas}, and 3. And shoes that don't make my feet sceam. Throw on a nice skirt and voila!

Today is another case of a short{er} dress and a long cardigan. If there's one nice thing about winter it's that tights can help you sneak by with a shorter than usual dress/skirt.

I picked up this dress on a super sale at J Crew. Now you might be thinking, sale prices at J Crew are still expensive {and you'd be right most of the time}, but I lucked out. For $20 dollars this little dress was a steal. So much so that when I added to my online shopping cart I didn't even get mad about having to pay shipping. So I'll forgive the fact that it's about an inch or two too short and just to be happy to have this ~~little~~ short dress in my closet.

After a day in which I couldn’t seem to get anything right {left half of my gym clothes at home, broke a self of my bookcase and almost locked myself out of my apartment}, I figured I’d wear an extra fun outfit to get back on the right track. I pinned a similar outfit a few weeks back just waiting for the right time to recreate it. Maybe if I wore something fun, my luck might be better. I even pre-packed my gym bag and made sure my other furniture was secure. I was all set.

That was until a rogue bracelets got caught on my skirt and ripped a polka dot from here to eternity.
At least I tried...

Since we last saw each other I returned from California {hello jet leg}, celebrated a birthday {woo-hoo 28} and crammed for a midterm {blah}. Oh and it’s snowing today! It’s also Everybody, Everywear. Seeing as this month’s EBEW fell on Valentine’s Day it was pretty fitting that the theme be Red + Pink. I’m not usually one to dress according to holidays, but that’s more out of forgetfulness than lack of holiday spirit. So I pulled out my 1 true red piece and started from there. I even threw in my pink belt for good measure.

By the time you read this I'll be flying somewhere over the Kansas and hopefully catching up on school work. Technically my time in California has been for work, but I've had a bit more free time than I'm used to. I suppose that's hotel living for you. Rather than reading the two textbooks I lugged with me, I found myself standing in a bookstore while bored in the San Francisco airport and convinced myself The Hunger Games would be more enjoyable than marginal revenue.

Not only have I found my newest obsession {Katniss Everdeen, not isoquant curves}, I think I may have prematurely decided on my Halloween costume for next year.

While it's been unseasonably warm in Ohio, nothing really beats the weather here in California over the past few days. After a bit of work on Friday, I trekked down to the beach and snapped a few photos. Something about actually being a tourist made the fact that I was taking photos of myself with a tripod a little less awkward than usual.

Speaking of photos, I've been fiddling around with shooting in manual. This week I started a online photography class with BellaPop. Not only do I know what the knobs and buttons control on my camera now - I actually have a faint idea of what settings to use. Here's a glimpse at few California scenic shots from the weekend.

So I didn't hit snooze too much this morning and was able to capture this colorful outfit. Usually when I wear animal print, certain colors come to mind {black, gray, red} but not necessarily blue and pink. But I like the way this outfit came out. It's almost as if I am a cotton candy version of a leopard.

I’m not big on New Year’s resolutions – but if I had to pick a style related one – it would be to wear more red. Maybe that doesn’t count as a New Year’s resolution, but seeing as it is January - let's just say I'm "resolved" on the issue of red. So there, glad we got that out of the way.

In other news, I’ve been a bit swamped with school, an ungodly amount of math/economics/finance and a serious case of morning lethargy. In case you’re not familiar with morning lethargy – it's where you set your alarm intending to shower, wash your hair, you know the normal routine – only to hit snooze for over an hour, use half a bottle of dry shampoo and rush out of your apartment totally disheveled and groggy. So if you've been wondering where I've been, I've either been in bed hitting snooze, or in class wishing I was in bed hitting snooze.

With grad school back in full swing, I tend to find myself reaching for pants on the days {well nights actually} I have class. While wearing a skirt all day at work doesn't bother me at all, I find myself fidgeting with skirts when I'm in class. So pants it is. I've also noticed that somewhere after our usual 8pm break, the university must turn down the heat because it's freezing by the time class ends around 9:30 {hence the large and warm scarf}. Some of my classmates have started picking up on the fact that I usually have a scarf with me in class. One even asked "how many of those wrap things do you HAVE?".

"A lot" was my obvious response. But when a scarf can double as a blanket, why not stock up?

A Good Thing

Another first Tuesday of the month, another Everybody, Everywear challenge. Today's EBEW is Black & White {feel free to play Michael Jackson's hit in the background while you peruse the EBEW site} and I figured what better time wear my new LOFT lace top. Originally, I had planned to wear this top with another new item, a pleated full length black skirt, but it felt too fancy {actually I felt like Mary Crawley from Downton Abbey, so maybe I should say it felt too 1916} for a normal day at the office. So I went with my usual office pieces - a blazer and pair of black pants. Why mess with a good thing?

But don't worry, I do plan on wearing my original combo. I just need to find a ball, formal occassion or somewhere fancy to debut it.

Every year I tend to stock up on tee's from J Crew {I'm a creature of habit, what can I say?}. This year rather than adding to my collection crewneck tees, I opted for the painter's tee I'm wearing today. You might not be able to tell from these photos, but the tee is boatneck shapped which I absolutely love! Plus it has another favorite of mine, 3/4 sleeves. I'm fairly certain whoever thought of the 3/4 sleeve was someone who was tired of constantly bunching up their annoying sleeves {something I'm all too guilty of}. So whoever you are 3/4 Sleeve Creator, thank you!

You know {well actually you don’t} this should have been my last outfit post of 2011. But somewhere between the excitement of New Year’s Eve and the frenzy of deciding which dress to wear, this post was pushed off longer than I intended. A lot of my Christmas gifts this year were of the non-clothes variety, but I lucked out when I was gifted this sweater from my cousin. For someone who has a lot of clothes, I suppose I’m a bit difficult to shop for me when it comes to clothing {at least that’s what my mom tells me}. So I was really excited to get a something in a color I love and that actually fits!

With an extra off day from work today, I thought I'd get some work done in my apartment. I can't believe I've been in my place almost a year and am still without a kitchen table. Not to mention I'm still using a coffee table as a faux entertainment center. So I trekked to Ikea and did quite a few laps while listening to the new Florence and the Machine album. While I didn't pull the trigger on a kitchen table {I'll continue to make due with my ottoman} I did find great little entertainment center and some new bedroom decor. Now I just need to figure out where to get some tools or who I can bribe for putting it together. I think I'll go with the bribe route.

Ps, thanks for your feedback on the NYE dress choices! I ended up going with Dress #2 from Urban :)

Finding the perfect New Years Eve outfit is always a quite the search for me. Maybe because I start that search a bit late. Or maybe because I always have something specific in mind that never seems to exist. Either way, it seems like each year I have a tougher time finding something I like.

This year I brought/ordered about 10 or so dresses before narrowing it down to the final 2. At this point, it's looking like it's going to be a game time decision.

Some days my brain works better than others. Usually, those days aren’t after holiday weekends and 10 hour retail shifts the day after Christmas. To say I’m recovering from over indulging in Christmas cookies and a lack of sleep is an understatement. In my daze this weekend, I also managed to leave a good amount of my clothes at my parents’ house. But hey, I’m a clothes hoarder so I’ll make do. Although skirts and dresses are out of the picture until I pick up my collection of tights from good ole Mom and Dad’s {Christmas was also laundry day}. So pants it is. And since my brain is still in warm-up mode, I took a page out of Kendi’s ~~book~~ blog and went a look based on hers. Hopefully, my brain will be a little more awake tomorrow.

I've been trying to refrain from my usual "tuck anything and everything in" mantra when it comes to skirts lately. Although, my regimented self kicked in and I tried to tuck in this sweater just to see what it might look like. But being that it's a wee bit cropped, the sweater completely rebelled against being tucked in. I figured it was a sign and just went with it. Throw in some red tights and felt just the right amount of festive.

This is usually the point in the process {the do or die phase I like to say} where I give in and make an emergency appointment with my hair dresser. I’m really trying to have some restraint but I have to admit I’m on the verge of caving.

The Other Way

I wore this dress a few times on the blog last winter, but since then I’ve been stumped as to how to style it next. Red is not the easiest color for me to style/wear, not sure why, it just isn’t something I naturally gravitate towards. So I looked back at how I wore this dress last year and remember that I styled it as a skirt. Which got me thinking, why don't I wear it the other way around?!

Not as in backwards silly, but as a top! Finding a skirt that was long enough to conceal the fact that this was actually a dress took a few tries but in the end I think it worked out pretty well.

Well I’m glad to report I finished my first quarter of grad school! All those lost hours of TV watching were worth it when I saw I managed an A in Statistics. To be honest, I really missed my usual TV schedule over the past 10 weeks, so I did my best to recoup all that TV watching this weekend. Which basically means I stayed in my pajamas most of Sunday and watched entire seasons of things like The League and Downton Abbey. Yep, I’m both a fantasy football fanatic and lover of period piece British television. I’m enigma tied up in corset, eating finger foods like mini corn dogs.

All in all I think it was a pretty good few months.

It's taken me almost a year to break out these cheetah tights. As much as I love a good animal print, I wasn't sure they'd go over so well at work. So I kept it simple and wore a black dress and camel scarf. Obviously you can't see my dress since I'm bundled up in my winter coat {did I mention it's officially freezing}. But trust me it's just your run-of-the-mill dress.

I may have just been paranoid, but I'm not sure how the tights went over. At least I didn't get any random comments. But then again maybe my legs scared away the usual commentary. Rawr!

At some point in life we all grow up, pack away our school supplies and enter the work force. But before we land that dream job, we usually go through an interview process. Not all interviews and jobs are alike so depending on your field, interview and work attire can vary too!

As a part of Monster.com’s "Present the Best You Contest" and the launch of their new Facebook App, BeKnown, I’m sharing a few tips for dressing for interviews and the work place. The outfits below are 2 examples based on a Creative and a Traditional business/business casual work environment.

The Interview
It probably goes without saying that when it comes to an interview you want to present yourself in a professional manner. A suit is typically the way to go, but you can always mix it up a little with color and accessories. Don’t be afraid to ditch the black suit for something that better fits your personality. That could be mixing and matching pieces from different suits or adding a pop of color for a unique interview outfit. If you’re interviewing in a traditional business environment, any neutral suit will do the trick. Either way, mix in a little bit of your personality with a great bag, different fabrics or accessories.

With all of that you want to keep the industry of the company in mind. Are you interviewing at a financial company or maybe a start up? Once you have an idea of what’s appropriate go ahead and picked out your interview outfit. Having your pieces chosen will help you stay on time the day of your interview. But don’t stop there, make sure to try your outfit on! This helps to ensure the last step – being comfortable. The last thing you want to be thinking about during your interview is how uncomfortable your clothes are. You want the focus of your interview to be you – so avoid anything too restricting.

First Day
So you landed the job, congrats! But how do you dress going forward? Again research is key- is your job business, business casual or casual attire? It’s important to know the expectations for your office when getting dressed for work. Think back to what you’re interviewer wore – this may give you a good idea of what’s appropriate on a day to day basis. If you’re unsure err on the side of caution. Dress a notch above what you think is expected until you have a better idea of what’s acceptable. It's better to be over-dressed than under-dressed, right?

Let me preface this by saying, this is not an exaggeration. Seriously, ever since my last post and that comment about rain, I swear it hasn't stopped. Between dreary days and my first round of grad school finals, I really haven't had the time, effort or need to get soaking wet to manage taking outfit photos. I really don't like neglecting the blog {she is my favorite hobby after all}, but sometimes getting out of bed, focusing on school and managing a work day is all I can muster.

As you can by the photo quality, I started this little blog with camera phone in my hand and really not much else. At somepoint last winter I upgraded to a tripod, clearly a major accomplishment! All I really remember from last winter was working all the time {which really is still kinda the same} and LOTS of snow.

By my count it's been raining for weeks. Granted, I have a tendency to exaggerate so what's probably more accurate is that it's been raining for 2-3 days. Either way it feels like we're in freezing cold monsoon season here in Ohio.

Regardless of the weather conditions, I had to go to work today and thus needed to put on something respectable. What's more respectable than a fabulous bordeaux bow top and a wool skirt? Iif you answered nothing, you'd be correct. Now if I could just get that exaggeration habit under control I’d have that whole respectable adult thing under control. For now I’ll just stick to respectable clothes.

When I had a {much} larger closet, I always had trouble finding specific things. If I wanted to wear it, I probably couldn't find it. Left side of the closet, maybe. Perhaps folded on a shelf. Or quite possibly shoved in one of the several baskets I used for storage. So when I migrated to my pint size closet I thought things would be easier to find. Well, this blazer is a prime example of how awesomely striped blazers can get lost regardless of the size of the closet. I think it's time to make up for some lost ~~time~~ outfits.

Today's photos are the first with my new camera. Maybe you can tell a difference, maybe you can't {for the record I can}. It's also the debut of this outfit which I totally ran out and recreated after pinning this.

I don't know about you, but I'm loving all of the fall colors. Particularly this shade of rust. I've actually been holding onto this outfit, waiting for the right timing/weather to finally wear it for the first time. I don't normally wait so long with new clothes. Typically, I'm too anxious and excited to make it longer than a day or so to wear a recent purchase. But for this skirt, the timing had to be just right.

Well I’m back with an EBEW vengeance today. While I don’t have colored pants {nor do I have a knack for anything DIY}, I do have lots of colored tights. Blue may not be the most colorful, colored tights {it's also hard to see in these photos grrr}, but I was feeling the mix of blues and pinks this morning when I got dressed. I’m actually kind of surprised I was feeling anything after the Felicity coma {and resulting sleep deprivation} I have been experiencing the past few days. Yes that’s my second Felicity reference in two days. I can’t help it, I am completely obsessed with how awkward the show is! It also make me miss oversized sweaters and long button down shirts terribly.

Happy Birthday little blog! We’ve come a long way since the iphone and the full length mirror, no? It's hard to believe all that's happened this year. We've moved past the age of 26 and had nearly as many hair color changes. That huge apartment with the 2 oversized closets is long gone, and we're livin' the single life in a new abode with a cuperboard and rod as a closet. A lot of blog friends have turned out to be some really great real friends. Retail season was a bit stressful, but hey we survived. And now we're back in school!

As much as I love fall {the layering, the colors, the ability to wear scarves everyday} the colder morning temperatures make me a lot less productive in the morning. I know it's Thursday, but this is what I wore on Sunday. It was a perfect day for layers and scarves{although school work and studying were not my idea of a perfect Sunday}. This outfit was comfortable and cozy which made up for the fact I was working on a powerpoint presentation for hours.

As much as I love scarves and layers, it's really these jeans that I'm obsessed with. If I could wear denim to work, I think I'd be living in these for the next week. If you're looking for a pair of skinnys that don't stretch {or suffocate you} I highly recommend these lovelies from Karen Kane. I know for a fact they don't stretch cause I've worn them almost every night since Sunday.

My dear friend Suze works for a domestic violence shelter in Michigan so when she asked me to wear purple today in support for Domestic Violence Awareness month I gladly agreed.

I had a bit of an impromptu haitus at the end of last week. While I wish I planned a relaxing 3 day vacation, I actually spent 72 hours nursing a random {and quite annoying} neck injury. If someone would have told me 27 would have been filled with new bodily injuries, lots of hair color snafus and more stress than I'm accustomed to, I would have gladly stayed 26.

I did get dressed, but unfortunately didn't find the time to make it to the park. But here's an instagram look at what I wore last week.

Maybe you've noticed {if not I'll tell you just keep reading} a bit of a change in my outfits lately. More pants, less skirts that is. I know, I'm surprised too. Having to dress for 12 hour days of work and school vs. just sitting at my desk for the day really have started to influence how I dress in the morning. This outfit is a prime example. It's simple and comfortable.

Of course, I can't tone it down entirely. I love jewelry and adding these two snazzy gold pieces really helped to make this outfit a bit more me. And hey, this gold bracelet is about as close I'll get to a gold star.

Review: HANAair Professional Hair Dryer

Remember my little everyday hair tutorial I did {check it out here}? Since the reviewing the Hana Flat Iron I’ve been using it religiously and let me tell you that I have noticed a MAJOR difference in my hair! I’ve been through quite the hair debacle since July {hair color 1, hair color 2, hair color 3} and keeping my hair healthy is my top priority. Of course, priority number 2 would be cutting down my styling time {see long video linked above for reference}.

Knowing that the Hana flat iron was superb, I reached out to the folks of Misikko to review a hair dryer. I received the HANAair Professional Hair Dryer and was eager to try it out. Maybe you’ve seen a few of these reviews on other style blogs, but I wanted to throw in my two sense. Before I tried the HANAair myself, I was a bit a skeptical of all of the rave reviews {if you have hair like me you might feel the same way}. Sure the dryer might be great for normal, slightly frizzy hair, but would it work just the same on my crazy lion mane?

Well I’m here to tell you that after a few weeks of using the HANAair Professional Hair Dryer I’m convinced. Not only does my hair dryer faster, but it also dries significantly less frizzy! Less frizz + less heat from the flat iron = healthier hair {please feel free to share my mathematical hair equation with others}!

When I snagged this skirt at Francesca’s in August, I knew it was cute {tribal print, what?!}! But I am finding out it’s really versatile too. Typically, when I shop at stores like Francesca’s or Forever 21 I shop with a weekend mentality, but I was pleasantly surprised to find such a great printed skirt that's great for the weekend but that’s also long enough for work. Double win, right?

I wish the words for today’s post would come together as effortlessly as this outfit. But I guess a girl can’t have everything, right? I actually picked this skirt out because it screamed outfit potential {plus it’s the color of my alma mater}. As I was at the register, I was already making lots of little mental notes for all the different outfit possibilities. Funny that the two times I’ve worn this skirt neither outfit was from the potential outfit pool. Being as Type A as I am, I’m kinda surprised I rebelled against the list. I love lists! But true to my Type-A form, the rebellion didn’t last too long. I’m already onto my next list. A packing list!

Birds of a Feather

These two pieces have been closet buddies for going on a week now. I'm in the habit lately of hanging potential outfits on the lone hook in my closet, but I think these two grew tired of playing nice. While the prints are completely different, I kinda really liked them...for about 5 minutes. The day {and subsequently the outfit} took a turn for the worse when someone approached me in the park to ask if I was a bird watcher! What about a girl in heels {in a park no less} gives someone the bird watcher vibe? Did my tripod and camera play a cruel joke on me and whisper in your ear that I am a feathery aficionado? Yeah, yeah that would be silly. But I was seriously perturbed. The day just took a downward spiral from there. What started as a bad mood, quickly turned into assuming any casual glance towards me was a stink eye towards the outfit.

I can't be sure if people were judging my loud, colorful outfit but I'm pretty sure they were. I mean if 1 guy thought I was a bird watcher, everyone in corporate Ohio must think I am a lunatic too, right? Okay I am exaggerating, but after the day I had I am allowed to vent. Yes that was me giving myself permission to complain. Phew, I feel better already.

More so in a, I just really REALLY like things kind of way. Take flower pins for instance, I am completely and utterly obsessed with them! Necklaces and bracelets can get on my nerves by the end of the day, but by adding a fun flower pin to my outfit, I have my accessory needs met.

These lovely flower pins {yes, I am actually wearing 2 today} were sent courtesy of Sproos. What’s great about these flower pins is that they’re bit smaller than my others which make them great for pinning on tops and jackets, but also a great hair accessory. You never know what you’re going to get with workplace comments about your clothes {see here for reference}. Like today, someone told me they really liked my dress. If you read the outfit details up there, then you know this is, in fact, not a dress. It’s separates. I tend to get this a lot, especially when I throw on a wide belt that covers up any inkling of a skirt’s waistband.

Now if only I managed to throw on a strapless bra {yes those are, god forbid, bra straps showing} I would be all set.

You know when I bought this dress, I wasn't really thinking about all of the potential possibilities or remix options.

Basically, I saw it on Kendi, ran to my nearest Target and highjacked her style {I'm good at that}. It's surprisingly turned into quite the little remix horse during the last 30 for 30. After realizing I could wear it under a skirt, I wasn't sure I had any other tricks up my sleeve. Then I spied Angeline sporting this dress backwards and I knew I had to try it!

I really like the high, straight neckline that wearing it backwards created. I'm thinking you may see it again sometime soon.

After my snafu with Creepy McCreepster I thought I'd move my location to the southwest most corner of the park {there are lots of trees and bushes for quick hiding}. Luckily McCreepster was elsewhere today so I had plenty of time for my usual routine. I think it's somewhere in the style blogger handbook that you should own at least one piece from the Tucker for Target line. Unfortunately, I missed that train so I was pumped when Suze let me borrow this top. I'm a sucker for flowly tops so this lovely fits in quite nicely with my collection.Too bad it's not a permanent fixture.

I’m low on photos today. Seems I planned my arrival to the park at the same time as the volunteer who’s responsible for turning on the entire sprinkler system. She may have given me a strange look as I set up my tripod and fired off one round of photos. Then she politely asked me if I would be finished anytime soon.

And by politely I mean in that “I’m not sure who you are or what you’re doing but I’m going to be pretend to be nice to you” kind of way. I doubt you wanted to see a drenched outfit shot so I opted to move to an area sans-sprinklers. Easy solution, right? Then I noticed {with my killer someone's watching me spidey sense} some guy walking like a snail and staring at me. I’ve been stared at enough {twice today no less} at the park to discern the “what is she doing face” from the “scary creepy face”. This guy was scary creepy so I hauled it out of the park.

I made safely back to my car. Not before noticing snail man trailing like a turtle behind me. Creepy.

I think all that fawning over my striped blazer put me in a striped state of mind! As for the skirt, I picked it because it's functional. I'm heading to dinner with co-workers tonight and needed something that could get me through the day without getting too terribly wrinkled. Plus the fact that it isn't uber restricting like a few of my other skirts makes a delicious mexican dinner all the more enjoyable. Now if I can somehow manage keep this outfit clean, it will be a win/win.

We all have our obsessions. Stripes just happen to be {one of} mine. Tank tops, tee shirts, dresses. You name it, I probably have it. I've been meaning to add a striped blazer to my collection for a while now {it seems like the appropriate next piece}. I actually tried this on earlier in the month when I was shopping with Suze, but ended up putting it back. Then I stumbled across it again with a yellow $15 sale tag I couldn't resist.

I think this will be a great fall piece. Over bright colored tops, with dresses or as part of a pattern mixing outfit like here. This would be me crossing one thing off the fall wish list. I wonder what's next?

I've had this dress for ages, although today is it's blog debut. It's one of the first "work" dresses I bought when I felt courageous enough to break out of the suit-jacket-syndrome that was the first 3 months of being a "career" gal. We've seen some good times, this dress and I. We've attended conferences, dabbled in some public speaking and led team builders. I even wore it for my first day at my current job. Although I don't wear this dress much anymore I can't seem to part with it.

After coming down with a case of the icks, I thought I opt for one of my favorite dresses and take the extra step to curl my hair {it adds pizazz, no?}. I may not physically feel great, but at least I feel good in what I'm wearing. Plus I'm sporting a new lipstick so take that you silly sickness!

Also, looking at these photos it’s starting to look more and more like fall! {Yes, that’s an exclamation of excitement, rather than just an exclamation that indicates I’m yelling} It’s like the weather gods heard my inner plea for fall-like weather as I flipped through the latest J. Crew catalog last night. I mean after all those bold hues and wool fabrics…and COATS. Oh my gah, coats galore! {now that’s a yelling exclamation point} How could I not dream of autumn weather and falling leaves? Maybe if I think hard enough about the lottery maybe I can get the money gods on my side. Stay tuned.

Some days just don't go your way. Yesterday was one of those days for me. It's not this outfit's fault. But I felt awful and no amount of clothing was going to change that. They could probably start a "Horizontal Stripes Aren't Flattering" club and gossip about how they just don't get what their kids are wearing these days. Maybe I'll pitch the idea to Bren. Maybe it's my silky black top. Maybe it's the animal print skirt. Whatever it is, there seems to be a funny rumor running around our floor about my fashion sense. In fact, I believe the exact compliment I received {twice no less} is that this outfit is a fashion statement. Honestly, I was really unprepared for any sort of reaction to my outfit because my response was some combination of a garbled laugh and mumbling thank you under my breath.

I suppose outfit compliments are a nice upgrade from questions about college {uhhh I graduated 5 years ago people}!

Have I mentioned I'm a bit OCD? I like order and structure and when I find something I like, I tend to get a bit obsessed {Ryan Gosling, v-neck t-shirts, you get the idea}. After finishing the 30x30 you can add pencil skirts to that list. I guess I've had a longstanding obsession with pencil skirts for a while now, but after nearly 2 months of pencil skirts only {I neglected to include a full skirt in my 30x30} I was craving a little more fullness in my life. Enter my trusty H&M black skirt. I was so excited to wear it that I didn’t even think about adding any accessories! But, hey this is real life and some days I'm too scatter brained to remember bracelets or bright belts. If I managed to put my shoes on the right foot, it's a success.

Remember way back when I talked about having 2 closets {of course you don’t, so here’s the link}? Before I moved and traded in 2 double door closets for one tiny cupboard of a closet, I kept all my work clothes separated from my fun pieces. While all my clothes share a tiny home now, I still get dressed with many of the same old habits. Sure there is a little bit of work/play crossover here and there, but for the most part I suffer from a split personality closet. Corporate Liz {which you seem mostly on the blog} and weekend Liz {who’s occasionally camera shy}.

It seems a little counter-productive {and costly} to buy clothes for two different styles so I thought I'd showcase my trials {and what's sure to be a few errors} as I try to bring together both sides of my closet. Let's call it, for a lack of a better phrase, Work It!

Today's look centers around my H&M romper. I tried to jump on the bandwagon but found myself putting this piece back on the rack time and time again. I figured at most I'd only get a few wears out of a romper during the summer months. Totally not a justifiable purchase, especially with no room for crossover in my corporate office, right? A little thinking out of the box and full skirt later, I transformed my playful weekend romper into a work appropriate faux dress. Maybe sleeveless won't fly in your office {maybe it will}, but add a cardi or tights come cooler weather and you're set! Change out the skirt and you have a different look everytime.

Some days I just want/need something simple to wear. Preferably something with little to no effort required. This dress completely fits that description {all while still being fabulous}. Throw it on, add some shoes, maybe a belt for good measure and you're good to go. Not to mention I can see wearing this little darling a lot. It's brand new, but it has a vintage feel with the polka dots and flowy cut.

I think I'll keep it.

Today is Everybody, Everywear: Pattern Mixing. It's also my 4th EBEW since starting this round of the 30x30 remix {you do the math}. Somehow I've worn lace, yellow, a thrifted piece and now I'm pattern mixing! Basically, I am the 30x30 tortoise. While there is a good amount of patterns in my remix, most of them come in the the form of skirts. But seeing as I wanted both key parts of my outfit to be patterned today, I knew I'd have to get creative with 1 of my 2 printed tops. Since I am no a EBEW fortune teller, I wasted a few pattern mixing outfit a ways back {here & here}. To be honest, I don't think I would have put these 2 pieces together if it hadn't been for EBEW/30x30 fate. So to whoever is up there in the style blogger sky, I owe you. I owe BIG.

I've been sitting here contemplating what to write for about 30 minutes now. Actually, contemplating {I'm not sure my brain is working yet this AM} probably isn't the right word. It's been more of stare at the blank screen and get distracted. I suppose when I don't have a story or when my brain blanks I could always go with the old standby of how this outfit came together {this is a style blog after all}. This outfit is a combination of 2 things. First, I realized I've only worn this sweater once during the remix. Figured it was due another outfit and went from there. Second, with pattern mixing coming up tomorrow for Everybody, Everywear I chose a solid skirt since I don't have many prints to choose from for tomorrow's print extravaganza. So there you have it - the details behind the outfit.

I'm not gonna lie the combination of a sweater and wool skirt made for a particularly warm August day. Outfit photos were a bit rushed as I could feel the sweats coming on. And if there is one thing I try to avoid daily, it's the sweats. So there you have it - a little TMI to get your day going. You're welcome.

Third time's a charm

I've managed to wear this outfit three times since starting the 30 for 30 but today is the first day I managed to to get it photographed. Thanks to a little oversleeping and a morning thunderstorm, this outfit had a bit of bad luck. But I like it so much {it's so comfortable!} I didn't want to let this one slide off the radar. So when I headed into the park for photos, I paniced when I realized it was WAY more crowded than usual. My luck, right? But I would not slink away this time - this outfit would get photographed! I went to my usual quite corner and snapped away rather quickly. I thought I made it through unscathed but I got stuck behind a grounds keeper while attempting to walk back to my car. I'm fairly certain my tripod and camera looked rather out of place next to the wind blowers and fertilizer.

I missed a serious territorial down pour by about 5 minutes {good timing for once!}. Credit the ominous rain clouds for lessening the sunshine and giving my eyes a break from the usual morning routine of squinting my way through outfit photos.

I'm not quite sure how I feel about this outfit. It's a little bit all of the place. Printed skirt, animal print belt and then the orange scarf. Meh. I almost got rid of this scarf during my recent closet purge but it made the cut by the slimmest of tassels. I think I was feeling a bit of remorse for almost tossing it to the curb so I added it to the outfit without really thinking. Maybe it works, but I am not quite sold.

Much like my red shirt, this vest has managed to spend most this remix on the sidelines. Unlike, my red shirt it isn't because of it's color or {surprise} my mixed feelings. I really love this vest! I included it in this round of the 30 for 30 because I was {am} hoping to figure out a few ways to incorporate this fun piece into my work wear. While I tend to think I am better at merging the two personalities of my closet {kudos to the blog}, not all of my pieces come together as seamlessly as I would like. In the end, I think the vest really finished off this outfit. But not gonna lie, I am not sure how to wear it next. Suggestions anyone?

Remember that post about my sunglasses getting foggy? Well today the fog attacked my camera. This is no photoshop blur happening. This pure steamy Ohio weather. Today's photos also happened in about record time. As soon as I noticed my curls were falling out and my palms were getting a tad bit sweaty it was time to pack up shop and head to the car. I may or may not have sat with the AC on max for a good 5 minutes before putting the car in drive. Best decision I've made in a while.

The thing is I like braids! Sure, they MIGHT make me look younger. They MIGHT be a little less professional. And they MIGHT fall out requiring multiple re-dos and bobby pins throughout the day. But it’s a nice change from the ponytail and on days when I sweat before I even go outside, I need something that’s going to keep the hair off my neck. Plus all the cool kids are wearing them. Maybe I love them so much now because I was one of those girls who refused to wear them growing up {um, hello tomboy!}. Or maybe I am just lazy and like the fact that a braid can replace having to washing my hair.

Maybe you’re thinking, Liz what’s this shirt? Is it in your remix? My answer is, unfortunately yes. I’ve hit the 20+ outfit mark and I am just now finally wearing this shirt. I try to embrace red, I really do, but honestly I just think it’s not meant to be. Red shoes, great! Red lips, sure why not? But red tops, I am not really sold on it. I couldn’t even begin to tell you how I feel about red pants because, well, I've never gone there.

But I’m sucking it up {finally} here on outfit 21. Welcome to the party red shirt. And oh just for fair warning, you’ll probably be seeing a lot of this guy from here on out considering most of my remaining outfit ideas involve this top. Man, pay back is brutal.
